Shiites will mark Ashoura, the tenth day of the month of Muharram, to commemorate the Battle of Karbala when Imam Hussein, a grandson of Prophet Muhammad, was killed. Greece’s government says mortgage holders could be allowed to pay discounted rates for up to 15 years, as part of a major effort to reduce the number of non-performing loans in the bailed out country.

NEW YORK — Long Island Duck Industry Quietly Fading: Doug Corwin holds a day-old duckling in his hands at his farm, Crescent Duck Farm, on Wednesday in Aquebogue, N.Y. Once numbering more than 100 farms in the 1960s, the Long Island duck industry is quietly fading into the history books, and by the end of this year Corwin’s farm, in business since 1908, will be the only duck farm left on Long Island.

CHICAGO — High Waves Crash Off Shore of Lake Michigan: Manuel Hernandez takes video of high waves crashing into a break wall on the south shore of Lake Michigan on Friday in Chicago. Winds gusting up to 65 mph caused Lake Michigan waves to slam into the Chicago shoreline. The waves slowed traffic along Lake Shore Drive and prompted the cancellation of a Halloween attraction.
