Lutheran HealthCare has reached back into its past for help in shaping its future.

The entity that owns Lutheran Medical Center in Sunset Park and a collection of smaller family health centers throughout Brooklyn has hired back former Chief Nursing Officer Rosanne Raso R.N. to serve in the newly created position of senior vice president and chief integration officer.

Raso’s job will be to provide oversight and direction to projects that will shape the institution’s future, officials said.

Lutheran HealthCare recently entered into an affiliation with NYU Langone Medical Center and much of Raso’s work is expected to deal with future projects intertwining the two medical institutions.

Raso returns to Lutheran HealthCare after having served as the chief nursing officer/associate executive director for patient care services at North Shore LIJ Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan for nearly two years. She was also the editor-in-chief of Nursing Management, a monthly publication that offers educational information to nurse leaders.

Prior to her role at North Shore LIJ Lenox Hill Hospital, Raso spent 11 years at Lutheran Healthcare as chief nursing officer, where she worked to improve the environment for staff members and focused on patient safety issues. During her previous stint at Lutheran HealthCare, she was responsible for Lutheran’s implementation of OpenVISTA EMR, an electronic medical record keeping service. She founded the Brooklyn Nursing Partnership and helped establish a bilingual nursing scholarship award.

Raso earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York at Albany and a Master’s Degree in nursing from Wagner College. Before joining Lutheran HealthCare, she served as chief nursing officer at Atlantic Health System’s General Hospital Center at Passaic, New Jersey, and at NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System’s New York Community Hospital.

She has served as the president of the New York Organization of Nurse Executives and was recently appointed to the board of the New York Organ Donor Network.
