Brooklyn Bridge Park opened its “Pop-Up Pool” on Wednesday morning with a preview splash party for BBP Conservancy members.

The sparkling little pool quickly filled with excited children, parents and assorted waders escaping from the 90-degree heat. After their swim, some snoozed under the giant umbrellas set up in the sandy beach or gulped down artisanal lemonade from a new concessionaire this year, Lizzmonade Brooklyn.

Brooklyn Heights resident Audrey Meyer, 16 months, splashed in the pool with mom Tammy Himes. “We’re so happy its back this summer,” Himes said.

“The water is great!” said a boy rushing to get back in before his 45 minutes ran out.

“We’re super excited to embark on the second year of the pop-up pool. We’re trying to get as many folks into the pool as possible,” said Conservancy Director Nancy Webster, who added that, like last year, swim sessions start every hour on the hour, with wristbands distributed on the half hour.

“Today’s party is a thank you to our members whose contributions and support make the pool possible,” she said.

The pool will be open starting Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week through Labor Day and is free. Moderately priced learn-to-swim lessons will be available from 8 am to 10 am beginning in July.
