Brooklyn Pride board members and volunteers were asked to help carry the Queens Pride flag at this yearâs parade, which was held last Sunday in Jackson Heights. Traditionally, parade goers throw money into the flag along the route, to help fund next yearâs parade.
On Thursday, June 11, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will celebrate the observance of Brooklyn Pride by honoring outstanding members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community.
Markowitz will recognize three individuals and an organization that have made strides to improve the lives of all Brooklynites: the Lesbian Herstory Archives; Scot Medbury, Brooklyn Botanic Garden; Ricky Nacipucha, Trattoria Mangia; and Tracy Hobson, Center for Anti-Violence Education.

To celebrate Gay Pride 2009, Casa Frela Gallery presents the group installation Fairy Tales: Personal Legend, Urban Myth, Gay Exhibition. Fairy Tales features drawings, paintings and sculpture by six gay artists: Brian H. Crede, Anthony Gonzales, Joel Handorff, Seth Ruggles Hiler, Tai Lin and Branden Charles Wallace.
The exhibition opens on Saturday, June 13, 2009 and runs through July 13th, 2009. Casa Frela will host a gala artist opening reception on Saturday, June 13, 2009 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
