‘Great strides’ for cystic fibrosis in Downtown Brooklyn
DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — Music rang out over Brooklyn Heights on Saturday as hundreds of volunteers marched over the Brooklyn Bridge and partied in Cadman Plaza Park for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s 2012 Great Strides Walk-a-Thon.
Martine Denis, executive director of the New York chapter of the organization told the Brooklyn Eagle, “We’re raising money to find a cure for cystic fibrosis — currently, there is no cure. Families and company teams raised more that $850,000 just today.” Three other walk-a-thons took place in the tri-state area, Denis said, raising roughly $70 million all together.
Music provided by the Partners In Sound Entertainment Group kept participants dancing in the sun for hours. Partners In Sound co-owner Massimo Didonna said the company provided a full day of entertainment for the event, which started with a rally in Manhattan’s Foley Square.
