2 drivers indicted in New Year’s Day Bay Ridge mayhem

A man and woman who allegedly used the same car to mow down several pedestrians and sideswipe autos on a Bay Ridge street have been indicted by a grand jury, Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes said.

Amado Charles, 34, and Andrea Jobity, 39, are charged with running down several people outside 93 Lounge, a Bay Ridge bar, during the early morning hours of January 1.

The indictment, which was handed up on Jan. 25, charges that, after leaving the 93 Lounge, on 315 93rd St., Charles and Jobity got into Charles’ car, a 2012 Acura, and that Charles intentionally drove into several people, seriously injuring two of them. Charles also crashed into eight parked cars, according to the indictment.

Jobity, who was a passenger in the car, then climbed on top of Charles and drove the vehicle, crashing into parked vehicles, the indictment charges.

Charles has been indicted on charges of attempted murder in the second degree, assault in the first degree, vehicular assault in the first degree, and driving while intoxicated.

The charges against Jobity are driving while intoxicated. She has been charged with DWI as a felony, according to Hynes, who said she was previously convicted of driving while intoxicated.

The case is being prosecuted by Lindsay Gerdes, counsel of the Blue Zone in the district attorney’s office. Executive Assistant District Attorney Jeffrey Levitt is Chief of the Blue Zone.

The incident took place after an altercation outside 93 Lounge, authorities said. The bar has a troubled history, according to Councilman Vincent Gentile, who said there have been numerous fights at the location. More than 60 complaints about the bar have been filed with Community Board 10. In April, the community board, which routinely reviews applications bars make to the New York State Liquor Authority, voted to recommend that the SLA reject an application from the owners of 93 Lounge to renew the bar’s license.

Gentile said the community is fed up. “This is not how I wanted to start off the New Year, with yet another incident at 93 Lounge. Enough is enough,” said Gentile, who added that he will fight to close the place down.
