2012 Building Brooklyn Award winners named

BROOKLYN — Winners of 2012 Building Brooklyn Awards were announced this week by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, organizers of the annual competition.Restoration Plaza in Bedford-Stuyvesant (open space category winner). Image courtesy of the Brooklyn Chamber of CommerceThe awards presentation and a reception for the winners, their developers, architects and builders will take place on Thursday, July 12, at Liberty Warehouse, 260 Conover St.

The winners represent an inspired, creative mix of projects that enrich the borough’s neighborhoods and economy, according to Lori Raphael, director of real estate and development for the Chamber, who noted that they were selected from a pool of nearly 50 nominees.

This year’s 12 winners and their categories include the Brooklyn Navy Yard’s BLDG 92, Civic and Institutional; Red Hook Initiative,  Community Development; Medgar Evers College Academic Building I,  Education; Restoration Plaza, Open Space; Dumont Green, National Grid Award for Energy Efficiency; Jane’s Carousel, Recreational Facility; Dekalb Market, Retail; Atrium House, Residential-Single Family; Liberty Apartments, Residential-Affordable Housing; 97 Crooke Ave.,  Residential-Supportive Jane’s Carousel in DUMBO (recreational facility category winner). In addition to these 12 projects, the Chamber will honor two individuals — Michelle de la Uz, executive director of the Fifth Avenue Committee, from the public sector; and DavidVon Spreckelsen, senior vice president at Toll Brothers City Living, from the private sector.
