According to The New York Times, the proposed Brooklyn Skyscraper District, centering around a row of prewar office and residential towers on Court Street, was approved in its entirety Tuesday afternoon by the City Council’s landmarks subcommittee. This all but guarantees, according to the Times, that it will be approved by the full council. The district had faced powerful opposition, including that of the co-op board of 75 Livingston St., one of the towers, and the Real Estate Board of New York, which charged that landmarking would make it difficult for building owners and businesses to make alterations.
