At least one landlord on the landmarked Eighth Avenue block right across from New York Methodist’s Park Slope expansion site won’t disapprove if the hospital’s Center for Community Health project moves forward.

NY Methodist owns 519 Eighth Ave., the corner building in a gorgeous row of golden-orange townhouses. The five-unit residential building has belonged to the hospital for so long that the deed doesn’t show up in online city Finance Department records, which go back to the 1960s. But loan-related documents indicate that NY Methodist is its owner.

The other buildings in this townhouse row do not belong to the hospital, Finance Department records reveal.

On the next block of Eighth Avenue, at the corner of 5th Street, there’s a big parking lot — the kind of thing you’d think NY Methodist might own given its proximity to the hospital’s other holdings. But the Church of the Virgin Mary Greek Melchite Rite bought the property for $25,100 in a 1975 city auction, Finance Department records show.

(That’s how “Melchite” is spelled on the deed. More recent online info about this Catholic church, which is located a few blocks away, uses the spelling “Melkite.”)
