Brooklyn writer’s memoir chronicles year on a farm
When Carroll Gardens-based writer Rochelle Bilow was assigned to write an article about a small, full-diet farm in central New York, she picked up her life to move to the farm, where she served as the designated cook and farmhand. Now a staff writer at Bon Appétit, Bilow has just published a new memoir — “The Call of the Farm: An Unexpected Year of Getting Dirty, Home Cooking, and Finding Myself” (The Experiment) — that chronicles her immersion into a life of grueling farm work and a relationship that seems too good to be true.
Bilow holds a Grand Diplôme in Classic Culinary Arts from the French Culinary Institute. At Bon Appétit, she interviews chefs and covers food trends and seasonal cooking. Her writing has also appeared in Edible Finger Lakes, USA Today, the Syracuse Post-Standard, Food Traveler, and others.
