Cuomo mulls trip to Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic
ALBANY— Gov. Andrew Cuomo says he hopes to soon visit the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico as “a sign of respect” for their ties to New York.
The Democrat said Monday at New York City’s Columbus Day Parade that he would like to travel to the Caribbean before the Nov. 4 election but that details haven’t been worked out.
Cuomo says he has visited both places and Dominicans and Puerto Ricans are important communities in the state. More than a million New Yorkers are of Puerto Rican or Dominican heritage.
Cuomo rarely left the state in his first few years as governor but has recently visited to Afghanistan and Israel.
He says that if elected to a second term next month he’s planning a series of international trade trips.
