ON THIS DAY in 1910, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Brooklyn Politicians in Racetrack Scandal.”  The article focused on Republican district leaders at the time allegedly handling a “boodle” fund.   “Several prominent Brooklyn politicians will be involved in the racetrack bribery scandal when the legislative graft committee resumes its investigation at the City Hall next Wednesday,” the Eagle reported.  “The indictment of former Sen. Frank Gardner is declared to be only the beginning of what will eventually be the greatest expose of the methods that were resorted to by the lobbyists at Albany to suppress legislation…”

JOURNALIST and author Lizzie Stark will be at WORD Bookstore’s Brooklyn branch 7 p.m. today to discuss “Pandora’s DNA.” A book signing is also included in the event.  

NEW YORK POWER: An Evening with Joe Cunningham will take place 6:30 p.m. tonight at the New York Transit Museum.  The event is free and will feature Cunningham as he discusses his recent book “New York Power.”
