ON THIS DAY in 1905, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Two Women Claiming Insane Man for Husband.” The article focused on a “sensational” scene in court, where two women battled for the estate of John Wallace.  The previous wife had claimed that their divorce was a fraud.

“Two women claiming an insane man for a husband was the startling outcome of a simple application for the appointment of a committee of the person and estate of an incompetent the afternoon before County Judge Aspinall,” the Eagle reported.
