ON THIS DAY in 1908, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Hudson Steamer Burns, Four Men Lose Lives.”

The article focused on a day line boat that was destroyed by a fire at Newburgh.

“The beautiful steamer New York of the Hudson River Day Line was burned to the waterline and four …  waiters were smothered by smoke or burned to death early this morning at Marvel’s shipyard …” the Eagle reported.  “President E. E. Olcott of the Hudson River Day Line telegraphed at 9 o’clock to The Associated Press in New York: ‘Report of total loss of the steamer New York all too true.’”

THE VIETNAM WAR protesters stormed the Pentagon on this day in 1967.  Some 250 protesters were arrested when thousands of the 50,000 participants in a rally against the Vietnam War at Washington, D.C., crossed the Potomac River and stormed the Pentagon.

“EVERY DAY,” by David Levithan, will be featured at BookCourt at 7 p.m. tonight.  The event features a reading, audience Q&A and book signing.  

STOMP, CLAP & SING with Heidi Siegell will take place at 11 a.m. today at Brooklyn Public Library’s Dweck Center at the Central branch.  The event is intended for ages 5 and younger and features Siegell singing songs from her album “In Stillness: Lullabies and Meditations for All Ages.”
