Greetings, Brooklyn.  Today is the 295th day of the year.

ON THIS DAY in 1911, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published a The Junior Eagle children’s section, which focused on new plans for the Children’s Museum, titled “Fine New Building is Planned for the Children’s Museum.”

“The time is not far distant when the Children’s Museum … will have a splendid new building in which to continue its work,” the Eagle reported.  “The museum is part of the Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences, which has one of the largest museums in the world…”

THE CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS took place on this day in 1962.  Former-President John F. Kennedy, in a nationwide television address on this date, demanded the removal of Soviet missiles from Cuba.  On Oct. 28, the USSR announced it would remove the weapons in question.  In return, the U.S. removed missiles from Turkey.

BROOKLYN-BORN Curly Howard, comedian and vaudevillian actor, was born on this day in 1903.  Curly was the brother of Stooges Moe and Shemp.  In 1932, when brother Shemp left the Stooges, Curly took his place.  His trademark phrase is “n’yuk-n’yuks.”
