The 84th Precinct Community Council held its monthly meeting at the Brooklyn Law School on Tuesday night where it honored Det. Sheryl Wilson as its Cop of the Month.

Wilson, a detective in the 84th Precinct’s Domestic Violence Unit, arrested an alleged drug dealer in possession of an illegal handgun while following up an investigation on a case of elder abuse at an apartment in the precinct’s community.

“As a result of Detective Wilson’s investigation, a drug deal and an illegal handgun were removed from the streets,” said Leslie Lewis, president of the 84th Precinct Community Council. “There is nothing better than when a cop is able to take an illegal handgun off the streets and for that we are very grateful.”

When Wilson entered the apartment, accompanied by backup officers from the 84th Precinct, she quickly discovered a large amount of marijuana in plain view. With the assistance of Special Operations Lt. Frank Jurs, they secured the apartment and arrested its occupant, who turned out to be the subject of a domestic violence case.

A search warrant obtained to search the apartment yielded an illegal loaded .40 caliber handgun, an imitation air pistol, approximately three pounds of marijuana, a scale, plastic packaging material and large amounts of cash.
