Cabaret stars to open ‘Great American Songbook’ at Kingsborough

Broadway star Liz Callaway is one of the stars of the new show “Timeless: Three Generations of the Great, American Songbook” at Onstage at Kingsborough on Oct. 18.

A cabaret legend, a Broadway veteran and a newcomer to the world of music will team up for a special show at Kingsborough Community College that will highlight great American songs.

In an exclusive Brooklyn engagement, cabaret star Marilyn Maye, Tony Award nominee Liz Callaway and Nick Ziobro, a protégé of cabaret entrepreneur Michael Feinstein will perform in “Timeless: Three Generations of the Great, American Songbook,” at Onstage at Kingsborough, the performing arts series at Kingsborough Community College at 2001 Oriental Boulevard in Manhattan Beach.

The show will be presented on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 8 p.m. The performance opens the 2014-2015 Cabaret Series at Onstage at Kingsborough.

“October is our month of legends and legends-in-the-making,” said Anna Becker, executive director of On Stage at Kingsborough. “Cabaret’s Grand Dame Marilyn Maye, along with Tony-Nominee Liz Callaway and Michael Feinstein protégé Nick Ziobro team up for a unique evening of timeless songs from the great American songbook.”

Maye will belt out swinging jazz tunes, Callaway will celebrate Broadway’s best, and Ziobro will sing from his debut album produced by Feinstein.

Grammy-nominee Maye has been praised by music critics over the years as a supremely elegant jazz singer, who can also perform deeply moving torch songs, and as one of the funniest ad-libbers in the show business. Johnny Carson featured her 76 times on “The Tonight Show.” The Smithsonian included her in its permanent collection, alongside Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland.

Callaway is a Tony-nominee and Emmy Award-winning actress, singer, and recording artist. She debuted on Broadway in Stephen Sondheim’s “Merrily We Roll Along,” received a Tony nomination for “Baby,” and won great acclaim playing as “Grizabella” in “Cats.” Callaway sang the Academy Award nominated song “Journey to the Past” in the film “Anastasia” and is also the singing voice of Disney’s “Princess Jasmine.”

Ziobro won the 2012 Great American Songbook High School Vocal Academy Competition at the age of 15 and made his New York debut with five-time Grammy Award nominee Michael Feinstein. In his young career, he has shared the stage with the likes of Marvin Hamlisch and Barbara Cook. Nick’s debut album “A Lot of Livin’ to Do,” was produced by Feinstein.
