Participants in the Foot Locker Five-Borough Challenge officially opened the TCS New York City Marathon Health and Fitness Expo at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. The Foot Locker Five-Borough Challenge team is comprised of five runners — one from each of New York City’s boroughs — who run the first 13.1 miles of the race together as a group before separating and racing to the finish line. Michael Marando will be representing Brooklyn on Nov. 2. Michael is a special education math teacher who was also diagnosed with the most aggressive form of testicular cancer in August 2013. This will be his first marathon.
