Joseph Sweeney, creator of ‘The Doors of Brooklyn,’ dies at 76
Joseph Lee Sweeney, a retired architect and photographer who chronicled “The Doors of Brooklyn” in an iconic poster, is dead at 76. He passed away on Sept. 22 after a brief illness, family members said.
As chronicled a decade ago in the Daily News, Sweeney sought to compile imagery of Brooklyn’s exquisite doors to create a counterpart to the original “Doors of Dublin” poster, which paid tribute to that city’s classic Georgian-style entrances.
