Brooklyn actors star in St. Bart’s production of ‘Our Town’

Brooklyn is prominently represented in St. Bart’s Players revival of Thornton Wilder’s Pulitzer Prize winning play “Our Town.” Veronica Shea of Bay Ridge, Grant Chamberlin and Daniel Conover of Bushwick and Alex Farlow of Williamsburg are all starring in the new version of the 1938 American classic.

Chamberlin plays George Gibbs, Shea portray Myrtle Webb, Conover is playing her son Wally and Farlow is doing double duty as the assistant director and playing Mr. Carter. The play will be presented Nov. 13 to 23 at St. Bartholomew’s Church, at 325 Park Ave. in Manhattan.

The play will be performed in the church sanctuary.

“Our Town” is about small-town America in the early 1900s, depicted in the fictionalized town of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire. It is one of the most renowned and frequently performed plays in the world. The St. Bart’s production is directed by Adam Fitzgerald, a New Hampshire native.

In the introduction to “Three Plays,” a collection of his work, Wilder wrote that “Our Town” is “an attempt to find a value above all price for the smallest events in our daily life.”

Chamberlin is making his St. Bart’s debut in “Our Town.” He is a 2014 graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts’ advanced actor training program. A New Hampshire native, he performed with Oyster River Players in Exeter, New Hampshire.

After making her St. Bart’s Players debut in “The Boy Friend,” Shea was featured in Dylan Thomas’ “Under Milkwood’ and played the Irish maid in Thornton Wilder’s “The Matchmaker.” She is also a voice over artist and has done numerous radio and TV spots for 1-800-MATTRES(S). She used a French accent for the voice of “Grandma Cayenne” in an episode of “Blues Clues.”

Conover, a native of Coatesville, Pennsylvania, Conover began performing while a student at Coatesville Area Senior High. While earning a degree in broadcasting from Liberty University, he performed with a traveling drama group. He is making his St. Bart’s debut in “Our Town.” He moved to New York in 2012.

Farlow made his St. Bart’s debut as Willard in Arthur Miller’s “The Crucible” in 2013. He is the troupe’s resident photographer and this is his second time as assistant director. He was assistant director for the Player’s spring musical, “Nunsense,” in which his wife Alyssa played Sister Mary Amnesia. Before St. Bart’s, he performed with several New York improv companies including, Magnet Theater, NY Improv and The Pit.

The St. Bart’s Players is now celebrating its 87th season. Tickets for “Our Town” are $25.00 for adults and $20.00 for senior citizens and students 18 and under.
