The Narrows Community Theater’s latest show is a production of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic “Oklahoma!” that will open at the Fort Hamilton Army Post Theater in Bay Ridge on Nov. 14 and play for two weekends.

Directed by Alex Acevedo, with music direction by Katie Siegmund and choreography by Justin Bourdet, the production stars George Tsalikis as “Curly,” Emily Ryan Reed as “Laurey,”

Stephen Harris as “Jud Fry,” Dawn Barry Hansen as “Aunt Eller,” Matt ZanFagna as “Will Parker,” and Sharon Lita as “Ado Annie.”

“Oklahoma!” the first musical collaboration between Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein, opened at the St. James Theater on Broadway on March 31, 1943 and is considered a landmark in musical theater for its use of song and dance to move the plot forward rather than have the songs and dances serve as a diversion from the main story. With “Oklahoma!” the songs and dances were seamlessly woven into the plot.

Rogers and Hammerstein went on to write several more musicals, including “South Pacific,” for which they won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, “Carousel,” “The King and I” and “The Sound of Music.”

“Oklahoma!” is set in the early 1900s, when Oklahoma was a territory, not a state. The show features a high-spirited rivalry between the farmers and cowboys that provides the backdrop for the love story of  “Curly,” a handsome cowboy, and “Laurey,” a winsome farm girl.

The show contains some of the most famous songs ever written for the stage, including “Oh, What a Beautiful Morning,” “The Surrey with the Fringe on Top,” and “People Will Say We’re In Love.”

The Narrow Community Theater Production of “Oklahoma!” will play on Fridays and Saturdays, Nov. 14, 15, 21 and 22 at 8 p.m. and on Sundays Nov. 16 and 23 at 2 p.m., at the Fort Hamilton Army Base Theater, 403 General Lee Ave. The fort entrance is located in Fort Hamilton Parkway and 101st Street. Photo ID is required to enter the fort.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for senior citizens and students under 21, and $10 for children 12 and younger. For reservations or more information call 718-482-3173 or email [email protected].
