MICHIGAN — Building Imploded in Detroit After Bid: The North Park Plaza building is imploded on Sunday in Southfield, Mich. Oakland Community College owns the property just north of Detroit and auctioned off the chance to blow it up to the highest bidder. The college bought the 42-year-old building earlier this year and says it has no immediate plans for the land.

KENYA — Maasai Warrior Makes High Jump: A Maasai warrior makes the high jump, in which athletes must touch a high line with the top of their heads, at the annual Maasai Olympics in the Sidai Oleng Wildlife Sanctuary near to Mt. Kilimanjaro, in southern Kenya, on Saturday. Maasai men and women from the Amboseli and Tsavo region compete for medals and prizes in the event which aims for a sports competition of Maasai skills such as running, jumping and throwing, to replace lion-hunting as the traditional warrior activity.

WASHINGTON — Recent Storm Left Houses Damaged: A two-story house that toppled over the eroding ocean shoreline of North Cove, Wash., sits near an uprooted tree on Friday as the tide rises. Stormy weather blew out of Washington state on Friday, but left several houses in the area damaged in its wake.
