Board 10 member’s toy drive helps kids in shelter
Children who have been ripped from their homes because of domestic violence will still have toys for the holidays, thanks to Bay Ridge civic leader Greg Ahl, who conducts a toy drive each year to make the season a little brighter for kids housed in a shelter sponsored by the Center Against Domestic Violence.
The Brooklyn-based program serves domestic violence victims and their families. The location of the center’s shelter is not publicly disclosed to protect the domestic violence victims from possible retribution from their abusive spouses.
Ahl, owner of Ahl Tone Communications Inc. and the treasurer of Community Board 10, asked his fellow board members to bring unwrapped toys to the board’s meeting Monday night in Bay Ridge to be donated to the shelter. The response was overwhelming, Ahl said. The toys filled an entire table in the meeting hall.
