The Catholic Lawyers Guild of Kings County met at the nativity scene in front of the Supreme Court in Downtown Brooklyn on Thursday night in celebration of Christmas. The event then moved indoors to Caffe Buon Gusto for its annual holiday dinner.

This is a tradition for the group that goes back more than 20 years. It was 33 degrees on Thursday night, but that didn’t stop the guild. Last year it was closer to 20 degrees, and they have also met during freezing rain.

“We find that you have to keep your faith and live a good life no matter what the weather is outside,” said Joseph Rosato, president of the Catholic Lawyers Guild. “So even though it’s in the low 30s and very near freezing, we find it comforting to each of us to come together, profess our faith and do well by others.”

The event was brief. Rosato welcomed everyone and said a few words, and the group sang “Oh Little Town of Bethlehem” before Father Patrick J. Keating said a prayer.

“I want to wish all of you a blessed Christmas,” Keating said in closing. “This is a wonderful time to gather and celebrate our faith. We gather around this manger to show that this is a season of hope and joy.”

Frank A. Composto brought the entire ceremony to a wrap by leading the group in singing “Silent Night,” first in the traditional German and then again in English.

“On behalf of all of the board members of the Catholic Lawyers Guild, we wish everyone a very merry and blessed Christmas and holiday season for all,” Rosato said. “It’s been a wonderful season so far.”
