Mayor Bill de Blasio and his wife have quietly visited the place where two New York City police officers were shot to death.

De Blasio and first lady Chirlane McCray spent several minutes Tuesday morning at the site of Saturday’s daylight shooting in Brooklyn.

De Blasio folded his hands before him and stood with his head bowed. McCray placed flowers among dozens of tributes at a memorial for Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos.

The mayor and his wife were silent when reporters asked them to comment as they left.

De Blasio has been criticized by police union officials who say he contributed to a climate of mistrust of police that set the stage for the killings.
