ON THIS DAY in 1909, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Gaynor Repudiates Interview as Bogus.”

The article focused on a judge and mayor-elect at the time claiming that a statement printed in New York Press was fabricated.

“Mayor-elect William J. Gaynor issued a typewritten statement to-day utterly repudiating an alleged interview published in a morning newspaper,” the Eagle reported.  “Judge Gaynor declared that he gave no interview to anyone, thereby making it appear that the New York Press, which claims to be the judge’s chief supporter, was misled this morning…”

THE ANNUAL ROCKEFELLER CENTER Christmas Tree Lighting is tonight.  Live performances will take place at the Rockefeller plaza between West 48th and West 51st streets and Fifth and Sixth avenues from 7 to 9 p.m.  The lighting traditionally signals the opening of the holiday season in New York City.

JESSICA LANG Dance’s “The Wanderer” will take place at 7:30 p.m. today through Dec. 6 at BAM Fisher.  Tickets are $20.  “The Wanderer” is a story ballet based on Franz Schubert’s “Die schone Mullerin.”
