Keeping up with its long tradition, the Bay Ridge Lawyers Association braved storms and the threat of storms to journey to Atlantic City, earn CLE credits and stroll its icy boardwalks. Fortunately, attorney Bob Howe was on hand to snap the above photograph of members and guest lecturers. Seated, left to right, are Rosa Pannitto and Anna Tepedino. Standing, left to right, are the Hon. Lawrence Knipel, Judicial Chair Ray Ferrier, Hon Lai, President Joann Monaco and Justice Patricia DiMango, whose strong and effective court demeanor has earned her a television show titled “Hot Bench.” All agree she’ll look great on television.

You just can’t keep a good bar association from traveling to Atlantic City, even in the middle of two snowstorms and especially when CLE credits are on the line.

That’s why the Bay Ridge Lawyers Association members, led by President Joann Monaco, were able to hold their vaunted Atlantic City Seminar last week despite the raging snowstorms that wreaked havoc up and down the East Coast, imperiling the roads between New York City and Atlantic City.

Among the barristers having a fine time in Atlantic City were attorney Rob Howe and wife Diana.”We were blessed!” exclaimed Howe. “We literally ran between the snowflakes. The program was excellent, and our speakers really held the attention of our group.”

Certainly the big draw during Feb. 6 to 7, one that impelled a sizable BRLA contingent to make its annual sojourn to Atlantic City, was the valuable CLE sessions involving several prominent jurists. (Some may even have visited the Tropicana tables for which A.C. is famous, or tried beginners’ luck at the quarter slots.)

Howe added that all those in attendance gave a especially warm reception to Justice Patricia DiMango – who has gained deserved acclaim for cleaning up criminal calendars in the Bronx and who will leave the bench shortly to become a featured television judicial star.

Joining Justice DiMango on the CLE-accredited panel were Hon. Lawrence Knipel, Kings chief administrative judge for Civil Matters; Justice Barbara Panepinto; Justice Vincent DelGiudice; and Steve Finkelstein, a past president of the Kings County American Inns of Court.

Other BRLA officers include vice president Lisa Becker, Secretary Grace Borrino, Treasurer Stephen Spinelli and Corresponding Secretary Margaret Stanton. The immediate past president is Pasqualino Russo.
