Brooklyn Heights Association’s Annual Meeting features Internet expert Clay Shirky

The Brooklyn Heights Association’s Annual Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 27, 7 p.m. at the Brooklyn Historical Society, 128 Pierrepont Street.

The guest speaker this year is Clay Shirky, who will speak about what the Internet does to culture.

A consultant, writer and professor at NYU, Shirky studies online media, interactive telecommunications, emerging technologies, and how our networks shape culture. Shirky is also a Fellow at the Berkman Center for Internet and Society, and was the Edward R. Murrow Visiting Lecturer at Harvard’s Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics, and Public Policy in 2010.

He is the author of “Here Comes Everybody: The Power of Organizing Without Organizations” and “Cognitive Surplus: Creativity and Generosity in a Connected Age.”

BHA President, Alexandra Bowie, will open the meeting with a report of association activities, followed by Thirteen/WNET host Tom Stewart with a presentation of BHA Awards for Community Service.
