Eight people seriously injured in building collapse at 1916 Prospect Place
The top floor of a three-story vacant building at 1916 Prospect Place collapsed around 12:50 p.m. today, according to the New York City Fire Department. An FDNY spokesperson said that renovation or construction work appeared to be going on within the building. Eight people were wounded with serious injuries. One was taken to Kings County Hospital, no word on the others. No firefighters were injured.
None of the injuries are life threatening, according to an FDNY spokesman. Twelve fire units and approximately 60 firefighters reported to the scene.
Eduard Katanov purchased the building just two weeks ago on Feb. 12 for $310,000 as the managing member of 877 Belmont Group Realty, according to New York City public records. Katanov is an agent with Reliable Home Sales in Brooklyn.
