This ‘eyesore’ at 8658 16th Ave. was a city Health Department building
Eye On Real Estate: Brooklyn's Ugliest Buildings
If you squint at this former city Department of Health property, you can imagine it was a respectable building, useful to the neighborhood – before it was left to rot.
The retaining wall out front looks like it could cave in at any minute. The dirt in what was a front garden has shriveled Halloween pumpkins in it. The locks are rusting on security screens over broken windows. Bags of garbage are strewn out front.
“It’s an eyesore,” said nearby resident Angelo Mazzarino, adding his wife’s mother took her to the building when she was a kid to get her shots. “It’s been that way forever.”
