Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has strongly defended many of his signature policies in a wide-ranging interview with Katie Couric.

Bloomberg’s sit-down with the Yahoo News Global anchor was his first major interview since leaving office in December. It debuted Friday.

On his support of charter schools, Bloomberg says “everyone forgets” that they’re also public schools.

Last month, his successor, Bill de Blasio, came under fire for preventing three charter schools from using space in traditional public schools under leases approved by Bloomberg’s administration.

Bloomberg also touched on his controversial 16-ounce soda ban and said he expects to “win that battle” in court.

Other topics included climate change and gun control.

Bloomberg was appointed the United Nations special envoy for cities and Climate Change in January.
