Say Amen to the coolest residential development in East Williamsburg – which is being built in a former Catholic church.

The buildings that are being turned into apartments at 81 Ten Eyck St. belong to the Church of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception – which leased them to developer Leonard Terrace LLC for a 48-year term that ends Sept. 30, 2059, city records indicate.

The church, popularly known as St. Mary’s, was founded in 1853. In 2007, it merged with a neighbor five blocks away, Most Holy Trinity. The combined congregation worships at Holy Trinity’s property at 138 Montrose Ave.

St. Mary’s buildings also have the addresses 69-71 Ten Eyck St., 72, 74 and 84 Maujer streets and 187-193 Leonard St.

The Rev. Santo Cricchio, who signed the 2012 memorandum of lease on the church’s behalf, is the pastor of Most Holy Trinity-St. Mary. Malky Landau signed the memorandum as a member of Leonard Terrace LLC.
