The coolest lunch and dinner place in East Williamsburg is Grand Morelos, the Mexican restaurant at 727 Grand St.

The place is old-school, with red-leather booths, and it’s open 24-7. Everybody speaks Spanish, but they’re nice to you if you don’t. The chile relleno, which is a green pepper filled stretchy cheese and served with sides of beans and rice, is muy sabroso.

The runner-up is Italian restaurant and cafe Amici, which opened at 622 Metropolitan Ave. in November. The chef hand-makes tomato and ricotta ravioli with butter and sage sauce. It’s addictive.
