Eye On Real Estate

For an industrial area, it's got a lot of eye candy – thanks to the Bushwick Collective.
The group, spearheaded by Joseph Ficalora, whose family owns a neighborhood steel plant, finds blank walls for artists to paint on in the industrial part of Bushwick where Breeze has his outdoor sculpture studio.
The other day we met Martin Omar Privitera, an artist based in Buenos Aires who works under the name Roma, on Morgan Avenue. Thanks to an arrangement made by the collective, he had just finished painting a mural on a wall of the Iglesia Bautista Bethel.
“It's a blessing for me,” Roma said about getting a spot to paint on while visiting America to do contract work in Williamsburg for Wines of Argentina.
Some of the murals in Bushwick and neighboring industrial East Williamsburg are simply art for art's sake. Some are advertisements for the businesses housed in the buildings they decorate. Either way, they're fun to look at.
