All of you women out there who wear sweatpants to bed, take note. Pajamas can be glamorous, frilly and fun!

That’s the idea behind Pajama Glam Party, a fundraiser for breast cancer survivors organized by Noelle Karmo, a remarkable 11-year-old girl whose mother, Maimah Karmo, is a breast cancer survivor. The pajama party is literally that, a pajama party. Noelle has organized the parties in the past and now the fun is coming to Brooklyn next month.

At Pajama Glam, women and girls are encouraged to show off their finest red, pink or purple pajamas and enjoy a night of beauty, pillow fights, treats, jewelry, Zumba, dancing and swag bags. Amanda Mason, Ms. New York, will serve as MC at the event.

The party, at which both adults and children are welcome, will take place May 3 at the Brooklyn Bridge Marriott between 6 and 10 p.m.. Admission is $20 for children and $30 for adults. Tickets are available for purchase on the website of the Tigerlily Foundation, an organization founded by Maimah Karmo during her cancer treatments.

Maimah was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 32.

Proceeds from the pajama party will go to the Tigerlily Foundation to carry out its mission of educating young women around the world about breast cancer to encourage them to be their own best health advocates.  “It is so important to empower girls and young women when it comes to their breast health, body health and community engagement,” Maimah said. “We each have a responsibility to give of ourselves – for the simple fact that we are alive.”

Noelle said her goal is to help women under 40 who are living with breast cancer. She thought of having a pajama party because she wanted to do a fundraiser that was something different. “It’s something moms and daughters can enjoy together. It’s supposed to be fun, but it also means something,” the precocious 11-year-old said.

Tired of settling for small-time bake sales, by the age of six Noelle was begging her mom to allow her to throw a fundraiser.

Pajama Glam debuted last year in Washington, D.C. and is now an annual event.

Both mother and daughter Karmo are excited about coming to Brooklyn. “I love Brooklyn. My family spent a few years in New Jersey when I was growing up and I have so many fond memories of visiting friends in Brooklyn and enjoying so many cultural events,” Maimah told the Brooklyn Eagle in an email.

While the party will be fun, the fundraiser is serving a serious purpose.

In an article posted on the American Cancer Society’s website in 2013, it was reported that an analysis of breast cancer trends in the US found that new cases of advanced breast cancer are increasing among women ages 25 to 39.
