The weather was warm and the music was hot on Sunday, as families partied and picnicked at Cadman Plaza Park in Downtown Brooklyn for Milagros Day Worldwide’s third annual Mother’s Day walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. The event honors mothers and brings attention to the issue of domestic violence, Milagros founder Dawn Diaz told the Brooklyn Eagle.
“Milagros means ‘miracles,’” Diaz said. “It’s about turning abuse into success.” Diaz said the organization teaches leadership skills to survivors of domestic violence “so they will become empowered, and see that there is life after domestic violence.”
