NY unemployment rate lowest since December 2008
ALBANY— The state Department of Labor says that the unemployment rate in New York is at its lowest level since December 2008.
The department released preliminary figures Thursday showing that the unemployment rate in April fell by 0.2 percent to 6.7 percent, which is still above the national average of 6.3 percent.
While New York City saw 0.1 percent decrease in unemployment since March, the area outside of the city fell from 6 percent to 5.8 percent.
There were significant gains in nonfarm jobs in New York City, Long Island, Buffalo and Poughkeepsie since April 2013.
