Two extraordinary Brooklynites — Justice Arthur Schack and Dilia Schack, a well-known community leader and a state committee woman — will be among those honored by the Catholic Lawyers Guild Kings County Chapter on May 22 at its annual award dinner at Gargiulo’s Restaurant on Coney Island.

They will jointly receive the President’s Award. The current Guild president is Joseph Rosato.

Justice Schack served as chair of Community Board 10 and was counsel to the Major League Baseball Players Association before his election to the Civil Court in 1998. He was elected to the Kings County Supreme Court in 2003.

Dilia Schack headed the Bay Ridge Ragamuffin Parade Committee for several years and was involved in a number of civic activities before her election as Democratic state committee woman in the 46th A.D., which includes parts of Bay Ridge and Coney Island.

The Ragamuffin Parade is entering its 48th year and has been emulated in towns across the nation, deriving its name from the children featured in the Charles Dickens classic Oliver Twist. Ragamuffin’s current president is Colleen Golden and the next parade will take place on Third Avenue in Bay Ridge on Sept. 28.

Associate Justice of the Appellate Division Robert J. Miller will be presented with the Hon. William T. Bellard Award and the Distinguished Judiciary Award will go to Justice Dawn Jimenez-Salta.

Receiving the St. Thomas More Award at the Guild gala will be Gregory LaSpina, past president of the Guild.

Justice Ellen Spodek, who is president of the Kings County American Inn of Court, is the recipient of this year’s Ecumenical Award.
