WilliamsburgNew York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli said that Brooklyn is the king of New York City’s economic growth at a Williamsburg press conference on Tuesday. “Business in Brooklyn is booming and people want to live there because of the borough’s economic opportunities, its diversity and its outstanding schools, museums and nightlife,” DiNapoli said. “While Brooklyn faces challenges such as unemployment and the high cost of housing, the borough’s overall economy is flourishing and is poised to keep growing.” 

BrooklynNew York City asked Citi Bike to pay back $1 million in lost parking revenue. A provision of the contract with the bike-sharing service stipulates that NYC be repaid for all the bike docking stations that occupy spaces that were once used for parking. (Wall Street Journal)

Bedford-StuyvesentA 52-year-old man was struck by a car at the corner of Bedford and Atlantic Avenues, an intersection recently reduced to 25 mph as part of the city’s Vision Zero accident prevention initiative. Robert Daniel, 35, has been charged with vehicular assault, driving while intoxicated and driving while ability impaired. (News 12 Brooklyn)

Authorities say a person has been seriously injured when a firecracker went off in a Brooklyn school bus. Fire officials say 11 people were taken to hospitals for observation after the incident Tuesday morning. Five were treated at the scene. Department of Education spokeswoman Marge Feinberg says the bus was carrying students from the Brooklyn Dreams Charter School. The incident occurred while the bus was at Ocean Avenue and Dorchester Road. Feinberg says the bus company reported that one or two children had set off the firecracker. (AP)

Authorities say a 65-year-old woman, identified as Beverly Douglas, was found dead after police responded to a 911 call of a fire at a Brooklyn apartment. Police say Douglas was found unconscious and unresponsive in her Gates Avenue apartment after firefighters extinguished the fire shortly before 10 p.m. Monday. She was rushed to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported and the cause of the fire was not immediately known. (AP)

BrooklynTransit officials say a man was injured after jumping on subway tracks in Brooklyn. It happened at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Church Avenue station. The MTA says it involved a northbound No. 5 train. Service was suspended in both directions on the Nos. 2 and 5 lines between Flatbush and Franklin avenues. (AP)

BrooklynU.S. Rep. Michael Grimm is calling for a tourism boycott of Mexico in the wake of the case of a U.S. Marine currently being detained there. Grimm is urging tourists not to travel south of the border until Mexico releases Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi, who the congressman said is being “unjustly imprisoned.” (BrooklynEagle.com)

Flatlands/Bergen Beach/Mill Basin Early Tuesday morning, Teino Smith, a 31-year-old employee of the NYC Department of Corrections was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle, .08 of 1% Alcohol DWI, Improper Left Turn, DWAI- Alcohol and Refusal to Take Breath Test within the confines of the 63 Precinct.

BensonhurstLiberty Weekend, a two-day event, May 31-June 1, sponsored by Friends of Historic New Utrecht, will take place this weekend on the grounds of the New Utrecht Reformed Church, on 18th Avenue and 84th Street. The event is free. (BrooklynEagle.com)
