There will be lots of fun on Bay Ridge’s Fifth Avenue on Sunday!

Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to turn out for the 2014 Fifth Avenue Spring Festival, a giant street fair sponsored by the Bay Ridge Fifth Avenue Business Improvement District (BID).

The BID will welcome visitors to the great shopping thoroughfare by hosting a festival that promises to have something for everyone: carnival games, rides for kids, outdoor concerts by Brooklyn bands, sidewalk cafes, raffles, and sidewalk sales, pet adoption fairs, face painting, even a pizza eating contest.

The festival takes place on Sunday, June 1, from 12-6 p.m. on Fifth Avenue from 69th Street to 85th Street.

The BID represents the interests of property owners and merchants on the avenue.

“I’m praying for good weather!” Jim Clark, president of the BID, told the Brooklyn Eagle on May 28. “I want a nice, sunny day on Sunday.”

In a sure sign of the festival’s popularity, Clark said vendors who sell their wares at city street fairs have been contacting the BID’s office in droves in recent days to apply to be part of the Bay Ridge event.

There will be something to do on each block of the festival’s 24-block route.

Concert stages will be set up along the route where music lovers can stop and enjoy their favorite bands like Prodigal Child and Radio Daze. The avenue’s popular restaurants will set up sidewalk cafes to give festival-goers a chance to sit, enjoy a cold soda and refresh themselves.

The pizza eating contest will take place in front of Rocco’s Pizzeria at 7818 Fifth Ave.

For more information on the festival, call the BID at 718-238-8181.
