ON THIS DAY in 1900, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Little Irene Noble Ran Off to the Island.” The article references Irene Noble, “a pretty, venturesome little miss, and the daughter of wealthy parents,” who disappeared from her home in Brooklyn Heights – she was found later sleeping near the Catholic Home for Boys at Sea Gate.
“No one knows why she exchanged her downy bed in a richly furnished chamber for the rough sands of the sea,” the article wrote.
