ON THIS DAY in 1900, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Charles G. Bennett Married Quietly.”  The article focuses on former Congressman Charles G. Bennett of the Second Congressional District who married a woman who was “highly connected.”
The Eagle wrote that the reporter covering the story went to the congressman’s house twice to obtain details.  However, the wedding was a low-key one, and the housemaids wouldn’t give the Eagle reporter any details.
