The hunt for the stabbing suspect of two children in East New York is on.

Wednesday morning, Borough President Eric Adams announced that Western Beef will add $50,000 to the $5,000 award for any leads leading to the apprehension of the suspect. The announcement was made in front of the Boulevard Houses, where the stabbings occurred.

Later this evening, Council Member Inez Barron and Man Up, Inc. will hold a meeting to distribute “wanted” flyers and provide updates about the search, as well as the status of new security cameras for the area. Family members of the slain and injured children will be present. The meeting will be at the Gershwin School, IS 166, at 800 VanSiclen Ave. & Linden Blvd.

Six-year-old Joshua Avitto was killed and a friend, a seven-year-old Mikayla Capers, was critically injured when they were randomly attacked by a knife-wielding man while riding an elevator in the Boulevard Houses to get ice cream on Sunday evening. Any motive for the attack is unclear. A sketch of the suspect has been released by the NYPD, and although the father of one of the children recognizes the appearance of the person in the drawing, no individual has been identified as matching the description.

Residents of the housing complex had approved video cameras in the area of the incident in March, but such security measures had yet to be installed, complicating the investigation.

Brooklyn Brief will continue to follow and provide updates.
