The Police Department’s Hate Crime Task Force has stepped up its investigation into the case of the anti-Muslim fliers found in a Bensonhurst apartment complex, according to sources.

The fliers, which referred to Muslims as “terrorists” and called them “the second Holocaust,” were left at Shore Haven, a sprawling set of apartment buildings on Cropsey Avenue.

The shocking fliers read: “Islamists go to your country. USA hates you. You are terrorists and bastards. You are the second Holocaust,” NY1 News reported on Wednesday.

The case began when a 65-year-old woman contacted police shortly after midnight on July 26 to report that she had found one of the fliers near the door of her apartment. Police said officers found an additional 10 fliers when they did a search of the area.

Linda Sarsour, executive director of the Arab-American Association of New York, an organization based in Bay Ridge, immediately condemned the fliers and said she hoped police catch whoever left them. “We hope all people of the borough join us in denouncing this hate and law enforcement do all in their power to apprehend these individuals,” she told the Brooklyn Eagle.

Councilman Mark Treyger (D-Coney Island-Bensonhurst), who represents Shore Haven, said he hopes the case is solved quickly. “I will continue to work closely with the NYPD and entire community so those responsible for spreading hate will held accountable and I urge anyone with information to come forward,” he said.

Treyger also praised the work of the 62nd Precinct, which covers Bensonhurst. “My thanks to the 62nd Precinct for their quick response and thorough investigation of this heinous act,” he said.

The case is under investigation by the Hate Crime Task Force and by 62nd Precinct detectives.
