NYC issues Stop Work Order at LICH site
SUNY neglects DOB permit in Cobble Hill
The New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) has issued a Stop Work Order at Long Island College Hospital (LICH) in Cobble Hill, where SUNY is performing construction work without a permit.
SUNY has said it is preparing the former ER space for NYU, which will be operating a “walk-in ER” there starting in September.
According to DOB, SUNY Downstate, under the name Downstate at LICH Holding Company, constructed a 16’ x 25’ plywood exterior wall around the Emergency Department’s loading dock.
Neighbors, who complained over the past weeks about “dumpster after dumpster” full of debris being removed from the former LICH ER despite the lack of a demolition permit, speculated that SUNY had built the wall because “. . .they don’t want people to see what they deliver or what they take out.”
