ON THIS DAY in 1907, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Two Women Murdered While Man Fought Fire.” The article focused on a murder that took place at a farmer’s household as he was attempting to extinguish a fire.
“While Edward Horner, a farmer, was trying early to-day to extinguish a fire thought to have been kladled in his barn for the apparent purpose of drawing him from his home between Collingswood and Merchantville a few miles from this city, someone entered the house and murdered his wife with an ax and with the same weapon attacked Victoria Napoli, an Italian servant,” the article reported.
