Brooklyn’s connections to so many other places in the world bring the spotlight to nearby Jersey City next week. The Golden Door International Film Festival (GDIFF), now entering its fourth year, kicks off Thursday, Sept. 18, and runs through Sunday. Iconic film and television star Paul Sorvino, a Brooklyn native, is on the advisory board of the festival, which is run by his nephew, Bill Sorvino.

Tommy Hilfiger will host the kick-off event Tuesday, Sept. 16 at the Landmark Loew’s Jersey Theatre in Jersey City. Also active in the planning and promotion of the festival is Gina Irrizarry, long affiliated with the Brooklyn Bar Association.

“This looks to be a great festival for years to come,” said Hilfiger. A windfall of submissions from more than 20 countries affords this season’s attendees the luxury of reaping the rewards of GDIFF’s continued growth and success.

GDIFF is a non-profit organization dedicated to showcasing filmmakers and their work as well as promoting autism awareness with the support of Autism Speak. The organization aims to provide the residents of Jersey City and attendees from around the world the opportunity to experience a rich variety of films from some of the most talented and acclaimed filmmakers of today.

This year, GDIFF has attracted more than 70 sponsors and received several hundred submissions. For more information and ticket purchase, see goldendoorfilmfestival.org/.
