HITN-TV, the largest Spanish-language national cable network, is re-opening its Brooklyn-based studio after it was destroyed in 2012 by Hurricane Sandy.

For more than a decade, HITN-TV has been delivering educational programming to more than 36 million homes nationwide from its main studio based inside the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The damage caused by Hurricane Sandy forced HITN-TV’s management to cancel the production of its new fall lineup, and to question whether the station needed to go off the air permanently.

But after months of major decisions and months of lengthy repair work, HITN-TV will again be able to switch on its studio lights and set the stage for more years of educational and entertainment programming. And to honor a generous donation of $50,000 made by National Grid’s Emergency Economic & Community Redevelopment Program to support HITN’s recovery efforts, HITN will unveil the National Grid Commemorative Foyer.

“The damaged caused to our studio by Hurricane Sandy was pretty serious and very costly. But the experience has taught us many important lessons,” said Maryann Marrapodi, HITN’s Acting CEO. “And after a lot of hard work and with the support of good friends such as National Grid, HITN is back and were stronger than ever.”
