Several protests organized by exiled Tibetans were held in India on occasion of the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to India.

NEW YORK — NYPD Security Increased: A police officer watches a train pull out of the Times Square subway station in New York, Wednesday. Police stepped up security in Times Square on Wednesday amid concerns that the mounting hostilities between the United States and the Islamic State group could have repercussions on U.S. soil.

MEXICO — Bridge Collapsed in Los Cabos: A man stands over the collapsed Aduano Bridge leading to in Los Cabos, Mexico, on Wednesday, several days after Hurricane Odile, a category 3 storm, hit the region. President Enrique Pena Nieto’s office said the federal government was working closely with state authorities on relief efforts in the areas battered by Odile, including restoring water and electricity.

GREECE — Mother of Murdered Greek Rapper Weeps: Magda Fyssa, mother of murdered Greek rap singer Pavlos Fyssas, places her hands on a plaque unveiled at the site of his death one year ago, in Keratsini western Athens, Thursday. Fyssas, 34, was stabbed in the street, followed by the arrest of a volunteer of the extreme right Golden Dawn party. The incident triggered a crackdown on the party that saw prominent members jailed on suspicion of criminal activity.

MICHIGAN — A Mother Grieves After Port Huron Slayings Sentence: Amanda Angerbrandt, left, sister of Melissa Ichenberg, hugs Betty Sanchez, mother of Daniel McRoberts Wednesday at the St. Clair County Courthouse in Port Huron, Mich. Manuel Gamez was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility for parole in the July 2013 slaying of Melissa Ichenberg and Daniel McRoberts.

ALABAMA — Ninja Turtles Visit Children’s Hospital: The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles made an appearance at Children’s of Alabama to wash the windows at the Benjamin Russell Building and bring smiles to the young patients Wednesday. They scaled down the 15 story hospital building stopping at every floor to see the kids. The superheroes work for Squeegee Cleaning Services of Chelsea. More than 200 patients watched the show. Grady Acevedo Rosas, 4, high fives one of the Ninja Turtles through the glass.

PENNSYLVANIA — Officers Gather for Deceased Trooper’s Funeral: Law enforcement officers gather outside before a funeral service for Pennsylvania State Trooper Cpl. Bryon Dickson on Thursday in Scranton, Pa. Dickson was killed on Friday night in an ambush shooting at the state police barracks in Blooming Grove Township. Authorities are looking for 31-year-old Eric Frein, of Canadensis, who is charged with killing one trooper and wounding another outside the barracks.

BROOKLYN — Park Slope Artist Selected as American Made Finalist: Park Slope artist Erika Barratt, who runs Erika Barratt Design in Red Hook, has been selected by Martha Stewart and her panel of judges as a finalist in the 2014 Martha Stewart American Made Awards in the Design Category. Martha Stewart’s American Made is a nationally recognized awards program that celebrates new rising stars of the growing nationwide maker community. Shown above is one of Barratt’s creations.

HAWAII — Geologists Observe Lava Flow: This Monday photo provided by the U.S. Geological Survey shows geologists from the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory surveying the lava flow from the June 27 flow from the Kilauea volcano in Pahoa, Hawaii. On Tuesday, Hawaii County spokesman Kevin Dayton said the slow-moving lava is expected to bypass homes in the Kaohe Homesteads subdivision, and the lava is about 19 days from reaching Pahoa Village Road.
