Councilmember Vincent Gentile threw open the doors to his new district office, welcomed well wishers and, like any good host, provided visitors with lots of food, turning the official opening of his office into a house party on Saturday.

Gentile (D-Bay Ridge-Dyker Heights-Bensonhurst) and his staff recently moved their office to 8018 Fifth Ave.  after spending several years in an office on Third Avenue. The councilmember, who has the longest term of service of any member of the City Council, 11 years, decided to celebrate his new office by hosting an open house to give constituents a chance to see where he and his staff members do their work on behalf of the community.

“Please eat something,” Gentile told several guests as they walked through the door and saw a large table filled with egg rolls, chicken and broccoli, wraps and others dishes, all donated by local restaurants. “There are desserts in the back office!” he said. He wasn’t kidding. On a table in the back office was a table filled with cookies, cannolis and other sweet treats.

Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, Public Advocate Letitia James, Comptroller Scott Stringer, Borough President Eric Adams and Assemblymember Alec Brook-Krasny were among the elected officials who dropped by to take a tour of the office and to wish their colleague good luck.

Carlo Scissura, president and CEO of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, came to the open house bearing a gift. He presented Gentile with a framed map of Brooklyn to hang on the wall.

Gentile’s office at 8018 Fifth Ave. is open Monday through Friday, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The phone number is 718-748-5200.
